Fly-Tipping Enforcement: £100,000+ in Fines
Since April 2025, Barnet Council has issued fly-tipping fines totalling more than £100,000, according to Barnet Borough Times. The borough has pursued targeted crackdowns in areas where dumping has been persistent, including Burnt Oak, Hendon, West Hendon, and Cricklewood. The enforcement drive sends a clear message: fly-tipping has consequences, and the council has both the will and the tools to pursue offenders.
Community Safety Partnership
Barnet’s Community Safety Partnership brings together the council, Metropolitan Police, Barnet Homes, the London Fire Brigade, and Victim Support in a coordinated, multi-agency approach to community safety. This partnership model means that responses to crime and anti-social behaviour draw on the resources and expertise of multiple agencies, delivering better outcomes than any single body could achieve alone.
CCTV and Technology
Barnet’s CCTV network has been expanded as part of the wider commitment to community safety. Public Space Protection Orders
Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) were renewed in December 2025, maintaining the council’s powers to prohibit specific anti-social behaviours in designated public spaces. PSPOs are a targeted tool that gives communities and enforcement officers clear authority to act against persistent problems in specific locations.
Connecting to National Action
The national Crime and Policing Bill, currently progressing through Parliament, will introduce new Respect Orders — giving courts new powers to deal with persistent anti-social behaviour. The Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee promises every community a named local officer. Barnet’s existing Community Safety Partnership and CCTV investment position the borough to benefit directly from these national measures.
