More than 2,000 Barnet residents have been alerted to more than £3 million in financial support, thanks to a council scheme.
The figures were revealed at a meeting of Barnet Council’s cabinet on 20th September.
The extra support was secured from April to June 2026 as part of the local authority’s ‘benefits calculator’. The calculator identifies what a resident can rightfully claim from mostly nationally-funded or mandated schemes including pension credit, housing benefit, universal credit, child benefit and working tax credit, as well as discounts on energy and water bills alongside home insurance and mobile phone contracts.
The service has identified £32m for almost 34,000 residents since its launch in 2023, an average of almost £1,000 per user.
Barnet’s Council Leader, Labour’s Councillor Barry Rawlings said: “We want to do everything we can to support our residents, too many of whom struggle to pay the bills.
“This service has helped thousands of people ensure they have enough money to get through the month. We will continue to look for ways we can help residents who are finding it financially difficult.”
