Barnet’s dedicated new food waste collection is now collecting more than 100 tonnes of waste per week.
The new service was introduced by the council’s Labour administration in March 2026, having previously been removed by the Conservatives.
On the week commencing 17th May, more than 117 tonnes of food waste were collected. More than 100 tonnes of food wate has been collected every week since April 2026.
Since the service was launched, there have been 2 million collections and only 17 complaints of fox-related spillages.
Crews are equipped to clear up any spillages where these are seen on their collection rounds, and the street cleansing response team will respond to any incidents on public land reported by residents.
Cllr Alan Schneiderman, Labour’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, said:
“The Conservatives gave up on weekly food waste collection and lacked drive for the borough.
“We will always remain ambitious for Barnet, wanted to improve the service residents get. That is why we were so proud to bring back weekly food waste collections and they have been a real success, while keeping unwanted animals at bay.”
