Barnet’s Labour council has approved plans for a new improved Finchley Lido leisure centre.

The new leisure centre will provide a six-lane indoor swimming pool and cycling studio as before.

In addition, a new outdoor pool will have four lanes compared to the current outdoor pool’s two lanes.

Two studios will be provided compared to the current one and a learner pool and steam room will be available. There will be a sauna as is housed on the current site.

For this first time the leisure centre will have a soft play area and a dedicated car park for 150 cars.

As the new leisure centre is being built on a different site, the current facility will remain open until the new one is available.

It is projected to open in late 2029. The plans were approved a a cabinet meeting of the Council on 21st July 2026.

Councillor Anne Clarke, Barnet Labour’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure, Arts and Sport said: “This new expanded Finchley Lido will have more opportunities for the whole community – from those learning to swim to those wanting to keep fit and socialise. The new lido and leisure centre reflects feedback from the public consultation and is great news for the area.

“Exercise and physical activities have been a huge success in Barnet in recent years with ever greater number of visits to our leisure centres. The new Finchley Lido will make activity and fun available to even more residents.”
