More beautiful high streets in Barnet is the aim of new guidance brought in by the borough’s Labour-led council.
New rules will cover how much of a shop window a premises can cover, the size of advertisements and generally limit the amount of clutter.
The guidance has been approved as part of a new Supplementary Planning Document, approved by the Barnet Council Cabinet’s meeting on 15th June 2026.
Labour’s Councillor Ross Houston, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Homes and Regeneration said:
““These new rules will make for more beautiful high streets. We want our high streets to be the centre of local pride. Barnet Labour is strengthening our high streets by bringing in these new rules together with our enforcement work to tackle illegal activity in businesses and overparking by delivery drivers.”
