Barnet Labour has pledged to continue to be ambitious for the borough having been returned to administration by the council’s AGM, caring for our people, places and planet.
The recent local elections returned 31 Labour councillors, 31 Conservative councillors and 1 Green councillor. However, the council voted to return a Labour council at its AGM on Thursday 19th May.
Labour’s first term in Barnet saw a new approach in the borough – modernising decision-making, setting up financial controls and introducing the local authority’s first equality strategy. These changes enabled a new focus on tackling poverty, improving the state of the borough and driving towards Net Zero.
In Barnet Labour’s second term, the administration will continue to innovate, establishing a new regional park, nurturing our high streets, and asking how all our policies affect older people.
Cllr Barry Rawlings, Leader of Barnet Labour and returned Leader of the Council said:
“In difficult national circumstances it is an honour to have been returned for a second term. We will build on the successes of our first term – from action on fly-tipping and revamping the borough’s CCTV, to securing new social housing and becoming a borough of sanctuary.
“Barnet residents voted for a moderate, responsible council which brings people together for the greater good. That is the spirit in which we will govern.”
