Barnet Labour’s budget has put residents’ priorities first, building on its record of delivery of its four years in office.

This has included:

  • Bringing back free community skips and food waste recycling.
  • Fixing the CCTV left broken under the Conservatives.
  • Upping the number of potholes fixed by 50 per cent above the what the Conservatives managed over the term and investing £97 million in our roads and pavements.
  • Building or upgrading 20 playgrounds and bringing parks up to ‘Green Flag’ standard – two so far, more to come.
  • Planting 3,000 trees and providing 1,800 electrical vehicle charging points to help tackle climate change.
  • Securing 1,000 new council homes.
  • All while having lower council tax than all our neighbours including Conservative Harrow.

This budget enables us to carry on all that vital work that is at risk if the Conservatives get back in.

We have kept council tax increases below the maximum throughout all four years of our term. We will work to keep council tax as low as possible by:

  • Continuing to negotiate hard with the Government which has already led to an increase in our grant of more than £37million.
  • Driving the efficiencies which have led departments like adult social care to stay within budget for the first time in decades.
  • Harnessing AI and technology to get the best value for money for Barnet taxpayers.

Barnet Council Leader, Labour’s Cllr Barry Rawlings, said: “Labour delivers quality services while keeping council tax low. We have held council tax increases below the maximum for four years. I want to be clear that council tax increases are our last resort. For the Conservatives, it’s their first choice.”
