Childs Hill councillors have welcomed Barnet’s Labour Council’s delivery of a new pedestrian crossing at the junction of Finchley Road and Hoop Lane.
The busy junction has traffic lights but no dedicated time for those on foot to cross over, making many pedestrians nervous.
However, starting on 12th January, work to put a pedestrian phase will begin, after Barnet Council secured funding from the Labour administration in City Hall.
Childs Hill Labour councillor, Matthew Perlberg, said: “It is exciting that after many years of hard work and local councillors advocating on behalf of residents, works will begin.
“We appreciate there will be some disruption, but this has been planned to take place after the busy festive season and we will work closely with council officers to ensure that disruption will be minimised as far as practical.
“We also would like to thank residents for their support, working alongside local councillors in pressing for this important road safety scheme to create a pedestrian crossing at this busy junction.”
The work is due to last eight weeks and will also include resurfacing the road, upgrading the pavement and installing new kerbs.
