Barnet Labour has pledged that more local parks will reach ‘the gold standard’ of a ‘Green Flag’ award in the years to come.
The Conservatives gave up on the scheme to improve parks, and the borough’s green spaces lost all of their Green Flag awards during their rule at the town hall.
A park with a Green Flag award has demonstrated excellence in being a welcoming space, which is clean and safe and supports the local environment.
Under Barnet Labour, Cherry Tree Wood in East Finchley and Mill Hill Park have won Green Flag awards. At a recent Cabinet meeting of the council, a new strategy for parks was agreed that will push for even more Barnet parks reaching Green Flag status.
Labour’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, Cllr Alan Schneiderman said: “Green Flag awards are the gold standard for parks, and Conservatives just gave up on them.
“We have brought excellence back to Barnet’s parks and we will win more green flags in the years to come. Even those parks that do not have green flags will be improved and managed according to the green flag criteria.
“We will also continue with our summer park patrols, ensure our playgrounds are as inclusive as possible and support health and wellness activities in our park.
“We always push to improve Barnet’s parks, unlike the Conservatives who lost ambition.”
