Robbery of personal property – commonly called mugging – was 15 per cent lower from July to September of 2025 than the same period the year before in Barnet.

The fall reflects joint work between the Metropolitan Police, Barnet’s Labour Council and partners, and was reported to a meeting of the borough’s Safer Community Partnership Board on Friday 21st November.

Similar figures show a decrease of 30 per cent in knife crimes with injury, a decrease of 11 per cent in domestic burglary and 32 per cent decrease in business burglary.

Barnet Labour’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety, Cllr Sara Conway, said: “There is still much to do but this is testament to the hard work of our partners, the police and our officers who work with them.

“Upgrading the CCTV system that didn’t work 70% of the time under the Conservatives, partnering with the police to tackle organised crime and serious violence, introducing the first Borough-wide Public Space Protection Order, and expanding our community safety pop-up hubs is all adding to the drive to make Barnet as safe as possible.

“We know there is always much work to do and we remain ambitious and action-focused on continuing to improve community safety here.”
