Barnet residents who want a 20mph for their street are being put in the driving seat by the borough’s Labour council.

The Council’s new transport strategy – published last week – states that in future:

“Neighbourhoods would be able to put themselves forward for consideration for a 20mph zone using a nomination form available on the council’s website – which would also give advice on things like the local support needed for schemes to be progressed and how this can be demonstrated.”

Labour’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, Councillor Alan Schneiderman, said:

“Barnet Labour puts residents first. We are creating a new system where if you and your neighbours think you could benefit from a 20 mph zone on your road, you can make the case and we will work with you.

“Together, we will continue to make Barnet safer.”

Further details of the policy will be published once an analysis of a recent consultation on the matter is published.
