Barnet’s Labour Council has raised more than half a million pounds for arts and culture in the borough.
The figure was reported to a meeting of the Full Council on the 21st October.
Programming which will be supported as a result includes next year’s Light and Flight Festival, a dance project for young people with disabilities, and an initiative spotlighting the heritage of Barnet’s different communities.
In total, £550,000 was secured including £250,000 from the National Heritage Lottery Fund, £200,000 from the GLA and £100,000 from the Arts Council.
Next years Light and Flight Festival is being delivered throughout the borough. It is being produced in partnership with the RAF Museum based in Colindale and will celebrate Barnet’s crucial role in the development of aviation.
Labour’s Cabinet member for Culture, Leisure, Arts and Sports, Councillor Anne Clarke said: “Labour’s securing of outside funding for arts and culture in the borough, including the landmark Light and Flight Festival, shows how we are ambitious for Barnet.
“Even in tight financial times, we will find a way to bring new arts and culture to the borough.”
