Barnet Labour is supporting our children’s mental health by equipping schools to support their students’ well-being.
Barnet’s Labour council has enabled the training of more than 400 school staff to be Mental Health First Aiders, so they can recognise when children need help and take the appropriate initial steps.
There are now mental health first aiders in 86 per cent of Barnet’s school. The council is supporting the drive in independent as well as state-funded schools.
Meanwhile, 164 students have been trained to be mental health peer champions across 12 secondary schools.
Barnet Labour’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, Councillor Alison Moore, said: “The current generation of children face mental health challenges like never before, with the rise of social media and the aftermath of the pandemic.
“It is vital we rise to the challenge of supporting them and I want to thank all the schools who have worked with us on this initiative.”
