Barnet Labour has asked the Mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, to prioritise Totteridge and Whetstone Tube station has step-free access.
The call comes after more than 500 residents signed Barnet Labour’s petition on the matter.
Labour’s MP for Chipping Barnet, Dan Tomlinson; Labour Leader of Barnet Council, Councillor Barry Rawlings; Labour’s Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden and Cricklewood Councillor, Anne Clarke; Labour councillor for Whetstone Ella Rose-Jacobs; and Labour candidate for Whetstone Ezra Cohen have signed the letter.
Transport for London is currently reviewing which stations to provide with step-free access. Barnet Labour has asked for Totteridge and Whetstone to be prioritised.
They write: “Each year, 2 million journeys start or end at this station. This part of Barnet has an older population and there are many residents with access needs who would benefit greatly from step=fee access at this location.”
Ezra Cohen added: “Sadiq has increased the proportion of tube stations from one quarter to one third, and plans to make it a half by 2030. Its time Totteridge and Whetstone – that serves such a large area and that many of our residents rely on – is added to the list.”

Notes to editors
The text of the letter is as follows:
Dear Sir Sadiq,
Step-free access for Totteridge and Whetstone Station
We write to you as Labour representatives of the area surrounding Totteridge & Whetstone station.
We understand that Transport for London is currently reviewing the stations to be considered for step-free access, and would ask that Totteridge & Whetstone is taken forward as one of the priority stations for a step-free upgrade.
Each year, 2 million journeys start or end at this station, and it serves a large area given the relatively few underground stops in our part of the suburbs. Our petition in favour of step-free access has gathered 500 signatures and counting. This part of the London borough of Barnet has an older population, and there are many residents with access needs who would benefit greatly from step-free access at this location.
Please could you update us at the earliest opportunity on the prospects of this station being considered for step-free access?
Yours sincerely,
Dan Tomlinson MP (Member of Parliament for Chipping Barnet)
Cllr Barry Rawlings (Leader of Barnet Council)
Cllr Anne Clarke AM (London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden)
Cllr Ella Rose-Jacobs (Whetstone Councillor)
Ezra Cohen (Labour candidate for Whetstone)
