Three Barnet schools are launching free breakfast clubs for pupils this week thanks to a Labour Government initiative.
Ashmole Primary School, Brunswick Park; Claremont Primary School, Cricklewood; and Tudor Primary School, West Finchley; will offer a free breakfast such as porridge or fresh fruit and yoghurt at least 30 minutes before the school day begins.
They are ‘early adopters’ in a planned roll out that the Labour Government intends will cover all primary schools.
The breakfast clubs will help ensure no child will start the day hungry, as well as enable parents to work or juggle other responsibilities. It will be worth up to £450 to very family that benefits.
Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson, said: “Breakfast clubs can have a transformative impact on the lives of children, feeding hungry tummies and fuelling hungry minds, so that every child begins the day ready to learn.”
Barnet Labour’s Cabinet Member for Family Friendly Barnet, Pauline Coakley-Webb, said: “Labour is the serious party the country needs right now. Breakfast clubs offer the practical help pupils and parents need after years of Conservative neglect.”
Brunswick Park Labour Councillor Paul Lemon said: “I am delighted that Ashmole School in my own ward, as well as other Barnet schools are in this first wave of what will be a lifechanging support for many families. It shows the difference a Labour Government makes.”
