Rushgrove Avenue, which links Colindale South with West Hendon, is being resurfaced thanks to local Labour councillors, this October.

Labour Councillors for Colindale South – Cllr Humayune Khalick,  Cllr Nagus Narenthira and Cllr Gill Sargent and Labour Councillors for West Hendon – Cllr Ernest Ambe Cllr Andrea Bilbow and Cllr Rishikesh Chakraborty have advocated for the street’s revamp.

The thoroughfare, which runs from Edgware Road at The Hyde to Colindeep Lane near North London Grammar School, had been neglected for several years.

But after the Labour administration brought forward funding from next year’s Highways budget, action became possible. Barnet Labour have also agreed to invest an additional £8m in fixing roads and pavements so even more streets can benefit over the next two years.

Cllr Khalick said: “I know that the state of Rushgrove Avenue has been a real priority for residents, and so it’s been a priority for us as well.

“Yes, its about people knowing they can drive down the street without damaging their car. And cycle down it without being risked being thrown from your bike.

“But it’s also about a pride in the area. Residents of Colindale South and West Hendon deserve roads that are of as high quality as any where else in this borough. I am very pleased we are able to deliver it on Rushgrove Avenue. I want to thank all the residents who worked with us on this.”

Cllr Alan Schneiderman, the Barnet Council Cabinet Member responsible for roads said:

“Frankly parts of our borough were treated better than others under the 20 year Conservative reign and all parts of Barnet deserve care and attention.

“I want to thank residents and the councillors for all their hard work that made this possible.”
