Barnet’s Labour council sets council tax at a lower rate than any of its neighbouring London boroughs.

This is despite facing a £100 million real terms cut during the years of Conservative Government.

The most expensive Council Tax set among Labour Barnet and its surrounding London boroughs is Conservative Harrow.

A Band D household in the Tory borough has to pay £2,395.86 for 2025/6, more than £360 more than in Labour Barnet.

While keeping Council Tax low, Barnet Labour has delivered on key manifesto commitments and residents’ priorities such as:

  • Investing £97 million in our roads and pavements.
  • Fixed, upgraded and expanded the CCTV after the Conservatives left it unfit for purpose and not working 70% of the time.
  • Introduced two mobile CCTV units used on community safety and police operations.
  • Introduced inhouse summer parks and greenspaces patrols targeted and flexible around community safety needs.
  • Providing the promised free community skips service.
  • Planting 1,000 trees per tear.
  • £9m support package for those residents suffering the most from the Conservative cost of living crisis that includes the £2m Barnet Resident Support Fund, as well as Council Tax Relief and Housing Payments.

Delivering low Council Tax and our manifesto commitments to make Barnet cleaner, greener, safer, and fairer expresses Barnet’s Labour core value of responsibility to residents’ welfare and sound financial planning.

This contrasts with the Conservatives, who have brought us Boris Johnson style irresponsibility, Liz Truss style incompetence and Rishi Sunak’s inability to deliver.
