After 109 years connecting Barnet, Potters Bar and St Albans the 84 bus route is set to be another victim of Conservative cuts.

Despite raising the Council Tax, Conservative-run Hertfordshire County Council is cutting its support for this Metroline route, according to Hertsmere’s Labour councillors.

The Barnet Society describes the 84 as a long-standing route that was started in August 1912 by the London General Omnibus Company to connect St Albans with the Underground Electric Railways Company Limited’s station at Golders Green.

Labour councillors are urging residents to sign the petition against the axing of this well-used bus route.

Cllr Paul Edwards (Labour, Underhill ward) said: “Losing the 84 will impact so many residents who need this service to attend hospital in Potters Bar, and businesses who rely on workers and shoppers using the bus route to support local shops along our high streets.

“Please sign the petition to support the 84 bus route and stop the axing of this service.”
