We know that TfL’s revamp of Colindale Station is disruptive to many residents, however necessary it is. Colindale is one of the fastest growing areas of London, and more capacity is needed to avoid overcrowding. It is important to provide step-free access to the station for the many residents who live with disabilities. That requires work to the station and parts of the line as well. It would not be safe for workers to be operating while services were still running through Colindale Station. However, Colindale Station will not be closed throughout the work but only when it is necessary.

Here are some key questions and answers about the works. We will update this page if residents ask us to find more information, and as the project develops:

Is disruption being minimised?

The work has already begun and will go on until early 2026. However, the station will be fully functional by October 2025. The current plan is for there to be no further station closures after December 2024.

How will underground services be disrupted?

The Northern Line between Golders Green and Edgware, including Brent Cross, Hendon Central, Colindale and Burnt Oak, will be closed between 2nd April and 11th April inclusive.

There will be some weekend closures over the summer but there are not confirmed dates yet.

Colindale Station itself is likely to be closed between June and late Autumn, although the exact dates have not been confirmed yet.

What alternative arrangements will there be when underground services are disrupted?

There will be a bus replacement service from Colindale. The bus replacement service will, on its southbound journey, stop at Hendon Central and Brent Cross before terminating at Golders Green from where the Underground can be joined. On its northbound journey it will stop at Burnt Oak, Edgware and terminate at Canon’s Park on the Jubilee Line. There will be eight buses per hour in both directions, on average every 8 minutes, with additional buses to Golders Green at certain times.

The N5 night Bus, which operates 11pm and 6am and follows the route of the Northern line will operate 4 services an hour.

Standard bus routes which connect to other rail and tube stations will still operate from Colindale station including the 204 and 303 to Kingsbury on the Jubilee line and the 186 to Mill Hill Broadway on the Thameslink.

How long will the Station Car Park be closed?

The Station Car Park will be closed throughout the work which will take place throughout 2024.
