Conservative councillors on Barnet’s Strategic Planning Committee have
forced through the massive Cricklewood B&Q development at last night’s
meeting (9 Sep), despite objections from over 2000 residents. The
development will have 1,049 properties in buildings of between 3-18
storeys and 1,200sqm of commercial/community space.

This latest planning application from Montreaux reduced the highest
building by just one storey from 19 storeys and by just one property
compared with the last application.

Local Labour councillor and Barnet & Camden Assembly Member, Anne
Clarke objected to the scheme and spoke against it at the Committee.

Thames Water have said the B&Q site does not have adequate sewerage
for the size of the development.

Cllr Clarke said: “This is yet another example of the Barnet
Conservatives imposing bad schemes with super dense, high-rise tower
blocks. The Council’s negotiations with the developer to reduce the
impact of this scheme have resulted only in further overcrowding by
making the flats smaller. Not a single resident asked for this
concession.

“It’s clear that when it comes to over-development only Labour will
stand-up to developers, and work with communities to ensure that we
have appropriate developments for both current and future residents.”

Ends.
