Labour London Assembly Candidate Anne Clarke has written to Barnet Council to ask that Hendon Town Hall is lit up in Blue to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Greek independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1821.

Barnet has one of the largest Greek communities in London, and is home to London Greek Radio, as well as a number of Greek Orthodox churches and community groups.

Cllr Clarke said:
“Barnet is deeply indebted to the contribution of the Greek community here. They are a prominent community who have provided the borough with mayors and councillors. It is important we celebrate this wonderful community, and the borough’s long links to Greece.”
