Responding to the publication of the EHRC report into anti-Semitism in the Labour Party, Leader of the Barnet Labour Group, Cllr Barry Rawlings said:
”We welcome the EHRC’s recommendations to address anti-Semitism in the Labour Party.
“We also welcome the response by the Leader of the Labour Party, Sir Kier Starmer, who has accepted all the recommendations in full, and committed to implementing them in full.
“This builds on the leadership he has already taken on this issue and on his promise to robustly tackle anti-Semitism. I hope this, and the actions that follow, will help restore the trust of our Jewish communities.
“The last few years have been painful for many of our Jewish members and supporters, and a shameful period for the Labour Party. I am sorry for this.
“In Barnet, during this time, Labour councillors have been doing all we can to tackle anti-Semitism: by speaking out against it, by attending the Parliament Square protest against it, by calling on the Labour Party to put robust measures in place to tackle it, by lobbying the Labour Party to adopt the full IHRA definition of anti-Semitism, and by proposing a successful motion for Barnet Council to adopt the IHRA definition in full.
“We will continue to be part of the fight against anti-Semitism wherever it emerges and to work to help restore the confidence of our Jewish communities.”
