Labour councillors have got agreement that the Council will lobby the Government for funding to sort out cladding issues on some housing association and private blocks in Barnet. A number of blocks have cladding that is no longer deemed fire safe following Grenfell, leaving residents concerned for their safety. Leaseholders are concerned about not being able to re-mortage their properties without fire safety certificates for their block.

The Housing & Growth committee agreed to lobby the Government after Labour councillor, Paul Edwards, raised the issue at Monday night’s meeting (14 Sep).

Cllr Edwards said: “The residents in these blocks have been struggling to get answers and action to deal with non-compliant cladding and they need some reassurance and certainty. If the cladding on these buildings is not safe the Government needs to step in and ensure it is dealt with, so I am pleased the Council will now be raising this issue with the relevant Government department. It needs to be dealt with urgently.”

Ends.
