Barnet Labour is asking residents to help it take on slow coach utilities who dawdle when digging up the roads for repair.
Barnet’s Labour council is asking the Government for extra powers to charge contractors who take too long with disruptive works.
Before the application can be made, the Council must consult the public.
Barnet Labour wants to show how many residents care about this issue, so ministers understand how important it is to tackle the problem.
Barnet Labour’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, Councillor Alan Schneiderman, said:
“It’s so frustrating as a motorist to be stuck in traffic because of a half dug-up road where you can’t see anyone working.
“We’re asking for new powers to charge utilities companies that take too long. But we want to be able to present to Government how important this issue is.
“I urge as many residents as possible to answer the consultation.”
The consultation is now open and closes on the 9th September can be found at: https://www.engage.barnet.gov.uk/lane-rental-scheme-consultation
