More than 41,000 Barnet families will receive Warm Homes Discount Funds – worth £150 – in the upcoming year.

That’s more than double the fewer than 17,000 who benefitted in 2024/25.

The Winter Homes Discount is a £150 one-off deduction from the energy bills of households that receive either the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit or are on low incomes with high energy costs.

In total, more than 1 in 4 households in Barnet will receive the discount. It is applied directly to energy bills or may come in the form of a voucher for those who use pay-as-you-go systems.

Barnet’s Labour council has worked to ensure that families receive all the benefits they are entitled to such as the Warm Homes Discount through our benefits calculator, with almost 24,000 residents identifying more than £15 million in support.

We are also linking up residents in need with the “Green Doctors” initiative which helps families identify how they can save money on their energy bills, and the Money Advice People who offer financial advice.

Publishing the data, Labour’s cabinet member with responsibility for equality, Councillor Zahra Beg, said: “It is great news that more than 41,000 Barnet residents will benefit from the Warm Homes Discount.

“From expanding the Warm Homes Discount, to the introduction of school breakfasts clubs and the London Mayor’s expansion of free school meals, Labour is taking a smart targeted approach to helping those who need our support.

“We will work with our partners like the Citizens Advice Bureau and our Food banks, we will work to ensure those families who are eligible apply for the Warm Homes Discount.”
