Barnet council has agreed with TfL to consult on proposals for bus lanes to make bus services more reliable, speed up journeys and encourage more people to visit our town centres.
Bus lanes are proposed for the A1000 Barnet High Street, A598 Ballards Lane and A598 Regents Park Road. Residents can find out more and give their views at https://www.engage.barnet.gov.uk/hub-page/bus-lanes
Councillor Alan Schneiderman, Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change said: “We want to improve transport options across Barnet, support our town centres and encourage more people to use buses. Please take part in the consultation and let us know what you think.”
Following consideration of other potential areas, proposals for bus lanes on Cat Hill and Whetstone are not proceeding.
East Barnet Councillor Phil Cohen said: “What’s great about having a Labour councillor is that we listen to residents and get things done, including fixing potholes and resurfacing roads. It was clear that residents thought that a bus lane on Cat Hill was not going to work.”
Whetstone Councillor Ella Rose said: “Barnet’s Labour council is hands on, unlike the Conservatives who wanted to hire private companies to do everything. That means that councillors can have a real impact, from installing our great bicycle repair stands in Whetstone, to improving road safety and ensuring that residents were heard on bus lanes.”
