Barnet Labour has delivered a core manifesto commitment to deliver a state-of-the-art CCTV system for the borough after years of Conservative neglect.
When Labour took on the council, 70 per cent of the CCTV cameras weren’t working.
In its first year, the new administration fixed all the CCTV and by October 2023 provided a new state of the art control centre and upgraded and expanded system for the borough.
Under Labour leadership, the number of camera positions that the system can provide coverage for has increased by more than 500 per cent, from 127 to more than 800.
Barnet Labour’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Resident Participation, Councillor Sara Conway said: “Community safety is a priority for Barnet’s residents and for this Labour administration.
“We have taken quick and robust action to deliver our core manifesto commitments on CCTV, community hubs and community safety ward walks in our first two years in office.
“We will continue to work with partners and residents to improve safety in our borough, including working with police and housing partners on initiatives such as Clear Hold Build to target serious organised crime and anti-social behaviour hotspots in Barnet.”
