Barnet’s Labour council sets council tax at a lower rate than any of its neighbouring London boroughs.

This is despite facing a £100 million real terms cut from the Conservative government since it came to power.

The most expensive Council Tax set among Labour Barnet and its surrounding London boroughs is Conservative Harrow.

A Band D household in the Tory borough has to pay £2,286.32 for 2024/5, more than £340 more than in Labour Barnet.

Out of London’s 33 boroughs, Barnet has the 13th lowest Council Tax. That is up from 14th lowest in 2024/5. While keeping Council Tax low, Barnet Labour has delivered on key manifesto commitments and residents’ priorities such as:

  • Major investment in upgrading the CCTV system so residents feel safer.
  • A five year £97million plan to fix Barnet’s roads and pavements.
  • Introducing pop-up community safety hubs.
  • Providing the promised free community skips service.
  • Setting-up a Citizens Assembly on Net Zero, so we can tackle climate change together.
  • £9m support package for those residents suffering the most from the Conservative cost of living crisis that includes the £2m Barnet Resident Support Fund, as well as Council Tax Relief and Housing Payments.

Delivering low Council Tax and our manifesto commitments to make Barnet cleaner, greener, safer, and fairer expresses Barnet’s Labour core value of responsibility to residents’ welfare and sound financial planning.

This contrasts with the Conservatives, who have brought us Boris Johnson style irresponsibility, Liz Truss style incompetence and Rishi Sunak’s inability to deliver.
