Barnet Labour is proud of the 26,000 businesses – including the more than 23,000 small businesses – that power our local economy.

We support the small business owners and self-employed residents who live with the ultimate responsibility for their livelihoods and those of others.

When Barnet Council awards contracts, we look to award those suppliers who employ locally, backing local businesses.

We are providing free business courses for smaller business owners with the Rebel School.

The Barnet Apprenticeship Levy Fund provides more than £150,000 in apprenticeship funding for businesses, which can support new employees or existing staff.

Under Labour, Barnet Council also established a £50,000 fund for businesses seeking to put on events, training, internships, mentoring, vouchers or high street promotion.

Cllr Anne Clarke, Cabinet Member for Community Wealth Building, said: “Barnet Labour is so proud of our borough’s entrepreneurial spirit.

“Small businesses owners and the self-employed take on so much – knowing that their livelihoods and those they employ depend on them. That is why they have to be so incredibly hard working.

“The previous Conservative administration ran the Council on autopilot, leaving as many decisions as possible to multinational companies for whom Barnet was barely worth a footnote in their annual reports.

“Barnet is our priority and our small businesses are our pride. That is why we will look to support our local entrepreneurs in every practical way we can.”
