Tory incompetence has struck again, this time scuttling attempts to improve animal welfare, unlike Labour Barnet’s delivery on the issue.

The Conservative Government had promised to crack down on puppy farms and smuggling, banning primates as pets and imports of hunt trophies such as Lions.

However, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has dropped the legislation required, in just another example of Tory confusion following the Liz Truss Budget and a muddled approach to the Climate Emergency.

Labour Councillor Simon Radford, who spearheaded the successful Barnet Labour campaign to ban pets as prizes at events on Barnet council property said:

“It’s just staggering how the Conservatives can’t get things done. Whether Labour or Tory, we all agree that we should protect animals. Yet somehow Rishi Sunak struggles to deliver.

“I’m proud of how we have managed to act on animal welfare in Labour Barnet and worked with the RSPCA to ban pets as prizes. The last Labour Government banned foxhunting against Tory resistance, and cosmetic animal testing. The country needs Labour to be returned to Government nationally, to provide some competence at last.”
