Leader of the Barnet Labour Group, Cllr Barry Rawlings said:

“The news that has emerged from the United States about the killing of George Floyd and the response to the protests is appalling.

“I will be attending the Barnet Multi-Faith Forum Zoom meeting ‘America is on fire: A response from faith leaders’ on 8 June to hear what our local diverse communities are feeling and what response they want to see from us as elected councillors.

“We will then be raising the Black Lives Matter campaign and protests at the 17 June Policy & Resources Committee to ask for the Council’s response to concerns about racial inequality and community cohesion.

“We support the Labour Party’s call for the suspension of exports of riot control equipment to the US pending a review of whether they are being used in response to the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests in US cities.

“We stand in solidarity with black citizens of the United States, and with all our black brothers and sisters world-wide, in our shared vision to see an end to violence, racism and discrimination against black people.”

Ends.
