Trading Standards are part of public protection, ensuring what we buy is safe, accurately described and our consumer rights are protected.
The service is also responsible for ensuring that age-restricted sales are enforced - e.g. that alcohol, solvents, knives, fireworks, and certain drugs and medicines are not sold to children.
There is no profit in such work so will a private company prioritise this?
Will a private company listen to the concerns of the public and police about controlling licensed premises?
