Labour councillors join 'Sleep-out at the Hive' to raise money for Homeless Action Barnet

Three Labour councillors will be taking part in the Big Barnet Sleep-out at the Hive Stadium on Saturday 18 April 8pm-8am organised by Homeless Action in Barnet (HAB) and Together in Barnet in partnership with Barnet Football Club to raise money for homelessness charity HAB and raise awareness of the issue of homelessness.

Labour’s Spokesperson for Housing, Cllr Ross Houston, West Hendon councillor, Adam Langleben and Brunswick Park councillor, Andreas Ioannidis are all pledging to try and raise at least £100 each from sleeping overnight in the stands of the Hive Stadium.

Labour’s Housing Spokesperson Cllr Ross Houston said: “People can find themselves homeless for many different reasons including family breakdown, loss of work and ill-health, but it is something that is increasing as more and more people struggle with the cost of living and completely unaffordable housing costs which mean they cannot afford to pay their rent or keep up with mortgage re-payments.

“Barnet Council accepted 823 households as homeless in 2013 compared with 364 in 2009/10 – an increase of 126% - and behind these statistics are tragic circumstances for each person and family involved.

“We want to support the vital work HAB and Together in Barnet do to help the homeless and those facing homelessness in the borough.”

Ends.
