The Conservative Government’s inability to deliver a fair and balanced funding formula to Transport for London (TfL) poses a serious threat to the future of Brent Cross Fly-over which is in its ‘end of life’ phase according to BBC reporting.

TfL may be forced to close six junctions across London if they aren’t able to secure a long-term funding deal, including the Brent Cross flyover.

Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Anne Clarke and Barnet Labour Environment Spokesperson, Councillor Alan Schneiderman have raised the impact this closure will have on traffic and communities around the Cricklewood, West Hendon, Brent Cross and Golders Green area.

Cllr Schneiderman said:

“The prospect of the Brent Cross Flyover closing because the Conservative Government have de-funded TfL is appalling. This will cause chaos in Hendon, Golders Green and Cricklewood. The Conservatives recklessness would put immense pressure on the junction of Brent Street, the North Circular and Golders Green Road in particular. The Barnet Conservatives must tell us why their Government are proposing to make so many residents suffer.”

Ms Clarke added:

“This Conservative Government gives London a terrible deal. Motorists pay road tax but get none of it back. We provide police for government functions, but they don’t refund us the cost. Now, despite the huge tax contribution made by Londoners, we are being punished by this vindictive government by having our transport network de-funded. Whilst they party in Downing Street, our communities will suffer congestion and pollution.”

Ends.
