Local campaigner and candidate for East Barnet, Linda Lusingu, is urging residents to respond to the new consultation for the former gas works site / Victoria Quarter in New Barnet.

Developers, One Housing and Fairview have launched the new consultation after the Mayor of London and the local Planning Committee rejected the last planning application. Labour councillors opposed the last proposal which was refused on the grounds of overdevelopment, mass, scale and height.

The new consultation runs for two weeks from Monday 29 March to Monday 12 April and does not make specific proposals on the number of units or height of specific buildings. Instead, it is asking residents to say what they think and want to see on the site. The consultation includes a webinar on 7 April from 6pm-7pm which residents need to register for.

Labour’s candidate for East Barnet, Linda Lusingu said: “It’s vital that residents are alerted to this new consultation for the former gas works site which is short and takes place over the Easter period.

“The consultation details are vague, and just ask for people’s views about what they want to see, so this is a crucial opportunity for people to say what they think about development on that site.

“Local people have made it clear that the last application was not acceptable, and many feel it won’t benefit them or their families. I am campaigning to make sure residents voices are heard and not ignored, and against overdevelopment on this and any other site.

“I urge as many people as possible to respond to the consultation and attend the webinar on 7 April.”

Ends.
