Cllr Amy Trevethan, Underhill councillor and Labour parliamentary candidate for Chipping Barnet, calls on BT to extend fibre broadband across Chipping Barnet.
When Amy last wrote to BT asking when fibre broadband would be available in Chipping Barnet, they couldn't give a date - but suggested that the local community raises private funding to cover some of the cost because otherwise installation would not be ‘commercially viable’.
In other words, despite making £2 billion in profits in 2013-14, and despite receiving £250 million in Government subsidy to upgrade more rural areas, they’re asking local people to foot the bill. But Chipping Barnet residents shouldn't have to pay extra when other areas are getting upgraded for free.
BT Openreach’s website says, ‘knowing there is a healthy demand in your area can really help’ .
So please sign our petition to ask BT to stop being super slow about superfast broadband.
‘We the undersigned call on BT to extend the availability of fibre broadband in Chipping Barnet, to enable customers currently without access to connect to and purchase the upgraded service. There is a very strong demand here from households and businesses, and the potential for more than 3,000 extra fibre broadband customers.
We therefore ask you to respond in a positive way to clear customer demand for a service improvement’.
