Estates manage all the property owned by the council on behalf of local people, including the selling off of council land and property deemed surplus to requirement.
The council should work to keep rents at a reasonable level to allow local community groups to have access to buildings at a reasonable rate so they can survive and thrive – e.g. scout groups, parent and toddlers clubs, or lunch clubs for the elderly.
Will a private company continue to do this, or will they seek commercial groups paying market rents?
It may be good for the balance sheet but is it good for Barnet?
