East Finchley's Labour Councillors have written to BT to ask them to install fibre-optic cables in the Strawberry Vale estate to improve broadband internet access.
At a meeting of the local residents association on 21 January disappointment was expressed at the low internet speeds and the problems that creates for residents.
Following a recent decision by Peabody Housing Association to remove Sky satellite dishes from properties on Old Farm Road , not all Sky services will be accessible to them, and in order to access the full range of TV channels, some residents would have to rely on streaming over the internet.
Cllr Arjun Mittra said: "We are listening to residents' concerns and have raised the poor quality of internet service on the estate with BT. Fibre-optic cables would be a major improvement to the service and improve the lives of residents."
Cllr Alison Moore added: "We are trying to encourage more internet usage, especially for older residents, as it will open up a wider range of services to them and allow them to better access cheaper online purchasing options."
