Christmas Parking Cock-Up

Labour councillors have slammed the implementation of Barnet's free Christmas parking initiative, which started last weekend, and called for immediate improvements. Parking is free in all of Barnet's town centres and car parks in the three weekends before Christmas, but yet the publicity has been poor, there are no notices on parking meters and the pay by phone service was still charging anyone who phoned up to pay.

Labour's Environment Spokesperson, Councillor Alan Schneiderman said: "Free Christmas parking has turned into a total cock-up. A vital measure designed to boost Barnet's town centres in the run up to Christmas has been badly implemented with poor publicity. We were told that the pay by phone service would be notified and that there would be proper publicity but that hasn't been the case. Everyone who has been charged when parking should have been free should be given an immediate refund."
