Borough Wide Day: Coppetts

Join the Barnet Labour Councillor for our Postal Vote Sign Up Weekend

Ensuring that as many Labour voters as possible are signed up to vote by post is one of the most important things we can do between now and Tuesday 19 April when postal vote applications close.

This is for two reasons. The first is that people are much more likely to vote if they have a postal vote and this difference is even higher in relatively low turnout elections like the London Mayoral election. In 2012, the Tories beat Labour in postal votes by 80,000 votes – the same margin as they won the whole election – we matched them on the day but their postal vote lead saw them home – we have to close this gap.

The second reason is that due to this Government’s individual electoral registration (IER), many people have lost their postal vote even if they have remained on the electoral register. They may not even be aware of this and may be disenfranchised on polling day if they are unable to leave the house. We must ensure that those people who have lost their postal vote regain it so they can vote on May 5.
