We Want Our Say! Abbots Depot Proposal

Labour councillors have learned that Barnet council are proposing to move the council's main waste depot to the Abbotts Depot site on Oakleigh Road South in Brunswick Park ward.

The Abbotts Depot site is already being used as a depot by two companies, and local residents who live nearby have raised dust pollution and traffic nuisance problems, currently caused at the site, with their local councillors. The new council waste depot would mean a further 140 large heavy goods vehicle movements a day at the site.

The costs to purchase the site and convert it for use as a waste depot could top £10 million even though the site may only be available temporarily for 10-15 years because part of it may be needed for the Cross Rail 2 extension to New Southgate.

Jessica Brayne, a local resident, has started the petition below: will you join her?

We the undersigned:

  • Express serious concerns about the impact these proposals will have on traffic and quality of life in the local area;
  • Call for an opportunity to engage in meaningful consultation with the council about this before planning permission is sought for any one alternative;
  • Think these proposals are poorly thought through with no evidence base and cost to the council budget at a time of increased pressure.
